The Pedigree: The wool knit tie was the unofficial "Friday Tie" of the mid-century Ivy League. It served as the bridge between the formality of a 3-piece suit and the rugged, outdoor life of a New England campus. Langrock’s version was prized for its "crunchy" texture and its ability to look just as right with a tweed sport coat as it did under a navy blazer at a Saturday morning football game.
The Fabric: Knitted from a dense, high-twist 100% Merino wool, this tie possesses the legendary cri de la soie (the "cry of the silk")—a subtle, crunchy sound and feel when the fabric is squeezed. It is a dry, matte texture that provides a sharp contrast to the smooth cotton of an Oxford cloth button-down.
The Construction:
-
The Square Bottom: In keeping with the 1950s archive, our knit tie features the authentic straight-cut tail. This blunt end is a hallmark of the casual Ivy silhouette.
-
The "Golden" Width: At a consistent 2.5" width, it is slightly narrower than its silk counterparts, providing a slim, athletic line that sits perfectly within the lapels of a natural-shoulder jacket.
-
The Fully-Fashioned Neck: The neckband is reinforced and narrowed to ensure it doesn't bunch under the collar, allowing for a tight, triangular knot that stays in place all day.
The Legacy: The Wool Knit is the most versatile weapon in the Langrock arsenal. It is virtually wrinkle-proof—making it the ideal choice for the modern "Road Man"—and only gains character as the knit softens over years of wear.
